Smoking weed is, for me personally, the ultimate calming ritual. It’s fun, a great social pastime, and hella relaxing. Cannabis is literally the new alcohol for younger generations. If you’ve ever hear the term ‘California Sober’, you know what I mean. That being said, with legalization under way around the country, people of all ages are putting down the Smirnoffs and reaching for the blunt. I mean for one, it’s a much safer option for achieving psychoactive effects. And for another, you can legit green-out one night and wake up fresh as a daisy the next morning. So, when the time comes for you to pick up your bud and get lifted, here are the 15 gardening tools 🍃 you didn’t know you needed.
1. Pipe Pokers
If your piece of choice is a pipe or bong, you need a pipe poker. Pokers are essential tools you’re probably missing, which will help you maintain your bowl and elevate your sesh by cleaning out the loose ash and stuck on resin. When your bowl gets clogged, a quick poke clears the airway, ensuring a smooth hit every time. It’s also perfect for stirring your bowl to get an even burn or for packing down loose herb to maximize your hit. Think of it as the unsung hero of your smoking kit, keeping things tidy and functional, so you can focus on chilling out. You can find these at any local smoke shop and Etsy has a great selection from small businesses.

2. Glassware
When it comes to enjoying cannabis, bongs and glass pipes are iconic tools in the smoker’s toolkit. A bong, often called a water pipe if you’re shopping in a smoke shop or on Etsy, uses water to cool and filter the smoke, providing a smoother hit that’s easier on the lungs. It’s perfect for those who appreciate a bit of flair, with designs ranging from simple glass tubes to elaborate, artistic pieces. On the other hand, a glass pipe is a more portable option, offering a quick and straightforward way to enjoy your favorite strain. These pipes, often crafted with intricate designs and colors, deliver a more direct experience without water filtration, allowing for a full flavor profile of the herb. Be careful with pipes however, the temperature of the smoke is way hotter in my opinion. It’s real easy to burn your throat if you’re not experienced, and can taste terrible towards the end of the bowl if you haven’t cleared the ash or if you have built up resin. CannaStyle is hands down my favorite place to get aesthetic glassware and their matching counterparts.

3. Your Perfect Strain
Finding your perfect strain of cannabis is like discovering your own personal flavor of zen. With countless strains available, each with its own unique blend of cannabinoids and terpenes, the journey is all about finding what vibes with you. Some strains may offer a blissful, euphoric high, while others provide a calming, body-relaxing experience. The magic lies in the fact that cannabis affects everyone differently due to our unique endocannabinoid systems, which interact with the compounds in the plant in distinct ways. Factors like your body’s chemistry, tolerance level, and even mood can influence how a strain hits you. So, whether you’re chasing a creative boost, pain relief, or just some good vibes, exploring different strains is key to finding that sweet spot. If you grab whatever your friend hands you at random you may end up with a bad bout of anxiety. Remember, it’s all about trial and error—each strain is a new adventure in your cannabis journey. Hello Mood is a great place to get legal and safe quality cannabis products with strains to suit your mood.
This strain is $13 for 1g.
4. Cones
Cones are a game-changer for cannabis enthusiasts, offering a convenient and consistent smoking experience. Unlike traditional rolling papers, cones come pre-rolled and ready to fill, making them a perfect choice for those who might not be skilled in the art of rolling. This convenience doesn’t sacrifice quality; cones often provide a more even burn, ensuring that you savor every bit of your cannabis without the frustration of uneven burning or constant relighting. Plus, cones can pack more herb compared to regular papers, making them ideal for sharing or for those who prefer a longer, more relaxed session. Their ease of use, combined with a consistent, enjoyable smoking experience, makes cones a must-have essential in any smoker’s collection. I absolutely live for the pink and purple Blazy Susan Cones that give off a rosy-toned smoke. You can find these easily in-store or online.
These you can grab from a small boutique called Pirate Girl Smoke Shop for $4.99
5. Roach Clips
Roach clips are hidden gems for sure. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, but they serve a functional purpose as well. These handy tools come into play when your joint or blunt gets too short to hold comfortably, saving your fingers from unwanted burns and ensuring you enjoy every last bit of your smoke. Not to mention, if you are an acrylic nail girlie who’s claws get discolored when smoking, these are essential. Available in a variety of designs, from simple metal clips to elaborate, bejeweled creations, roach clips are as much a statement piece as they are a functional accessory. They not only enhance your smoking ritual by keeping it neat and classy but also add a touch of personality to your stash. I found a black owned small business on TikTok with the cutest roach rings around.
Find these at Afarlaa.com for $30.00.
6. Rolling Trays
You would think rolling trays are common knowledge essentials right, but I’ve seen my fair share of friends rolling up on everything from composition notebooks to stolen restaurant trays. Offering more than just a convenient surface for rolling up, trays keep your setup organized, preventing spills and messes, and make the whole process smoother and more enjoyable. Beyond rolling, they’re perfect for sorting and managing your supplies, whether you’re grinding herbs, packing a bowl, or even crafting edibles. To me, the cutest options are unbreakable glass trays. However, you can find more affordable ones from local shops and dispos, and even Etsy.
This one is from Canna Style for $12.00.
7. Smell Proof Bags
Stash bags. If you take nothing else from this list . . . please get a damn stash bag. I say this as someone who has yet to get one, as I’m just discovering the usefulness. Think about this for a second, a smell-proof lining and secure compartments to keep your herbs, accessories, and tools organized and protected. Whether you’re on the go or just need a storage solution at home, no one more worrying about how loud the smell is when you let someone in your home or car. There’s tons on the market but YewYew is by far the cutest I’ve found. The brand is woman owned and the material is vegan leather. Need I say more.
This one from YewYew is $45.00.
8. Ashtrays
Ashtrays are overlooked sometimes. After seeing my fair share of ashen shelves and dirty garage floors, please, just get the ashtrays. If your a “pack-a-bowl” kinda gall, some brands make ashtrays with pipe pokers in the center to make cleanup even easier.
This one is from AmandaPaintsandPots on Etsy for $75.00.
How cute!
9. Grinders
Ladies, oh my lord, please stop mutilating the flower with your bare hands. This one is another basic need. Properly ground flower has a more even burn and better airflow. This not only enhances the smoking experience but also preserves the delicate trichomes that contain all the flavor and potency. A good grinder with a kief catcher is even better, as it collects the potent trichomes that fall off during grinding, giving you an extra stash of kief for sprinkling on top of bowls or rolling into joints. It’s a game-changer for those looking to make the most out of their cannabis.
This one is from Canna Style for $34.00.
10. Screens
These ones are controversial. At one point, screens solved all my problems with pipes or bowls with large holes. It definitely helped reduce the amount of lost flower that fell through and helped increase the longevity of glassware. But, they can also get a bit annoying as they don’t last more than a few sessions and get lost easily when ashing and cleaning your bowl. I say if it works for you then get it. But if it’s not that serious, leave them alone. If you are getting them, I recommend staying away from metal/mesh screens and opt for these glass daisies. You definitely want to be careful with inhaling anything made of unknown materials, so its best to just stick with glass.
These are from Etsy for $12.99 for 200. (Ask your local smoke shops as well for a few to try)
11. Instant Cleaner
Instant cleaners are a nice addition for sure. It’s a quick and hassle-free alternative to traditional cleaning methods like using Dawn and an alcohol-salt mix. These specialized cleaners are designed to break down resin and grime efficiently, often with just a soak and rinse, making them perfect for those who want to keep their pieces sparkling without the effort. However, the classic Dawn, alcohol, and salt mixture remains a reliable and cost-effective option for deep cleaning, especially for stubborn build-ups. It’s all about finding the right balance between convenience and thoroughness. I recommend having both on hand. Just remember not to use too much soap as the suds and soap residue can be hard to rinse out. You can totally skip the soap as well, but the alcohol is crucial to breaking down resin.
This one is from Amazon is $11.99.
12. Extra Bowls
Having extra bowls on hand is always a smart move. They not only provide a backup in case of accidental breakage but also allow for versatility in your smoking sessions. Whether you want to switch between different strains without mixing flavors or share a sesh with friends, having multiple bowls ready to go makes it easy and convenient. Plus, they’re a great way to keep your gear fresh and clean, as you can swap out bowls instead of constantly cleaning the same one. It’s a simple upgrade that enhances your overall experience and keeps your setup running smoothly.
The Cloud Bowl Holder Bundle is $48.00 on Canna Style.
13. Herbs
Adding extra herbs like rose, blue lotus, peppermint, and mullein to your bowl can elevate your cannabis experience to a new level. These natural additions not only bring unique flavors and aromas but also offer a range of benefits, from soothing effects to enhanced relaxation. For instance, peppermint can add a refreshing kick, while rose petals bring a gentle floral sweetness. Mullein, known for its respiratory benefits, can smooth out the smoke, making it easier on the lungs. Incorporating these herbs not only diversifies your sessions but also creates a more personalized and holistic ritual. It’s a creative way to explore new dimensions of enjoyment in your smoking experience.
This brand has a smokeable blend of peppermint for $9.95.
14. Hemp Wick
One of the top items on this list that I implore you to get is hemp wick. Hemp wick is a healthier, safer, and more eco-friendly alternative to butane lighters for lighting up your flower. Made from natural hemp fibers coated in beeswax, hemp wick burns at a lower temperature, providing a smoother and more flavorful hit without the harsh chemicals released by butane lighters. This means you’re inhaling less toxic residue, making it a cleaner option for your lungs. Plus, using hemp wick is more sustainable, as it’s biodegradable and reduces your carbon footprint. It’s a small switch that enhances your smoking experience while being kinder to your body and the planet. While smoke shops and dispos have these at the counter, it’s a great investment to buy a large roll. You will still need a lighter to spark it however so grab an electric lighter and wrap the wick around the base.
This roll is from Hemptique for $14.99
15. Joint Case
While they’re not a necessity, per se, joint cases are super fun additions to your stash bag. They keep your pre-rolls safe, fresh, and quiet (if you know you know). Protecting them from getting crushed or dried out. Whether you’re heading out for a day of adventures or just want to keep your stash organized at home, joint cases offer a discreet and convenient solution. They should come with odor-proof features, ensuring your herb stays under wraps until you’re ready to enjoy it. These can totally be found locally or on Etsy, Amazon, etc. you just have to keep and eye out.
These are from YeyYew for $75.00.
